HAVERHILL - Carolyn F. (Downing) Steele, 96, longtime Haverhill resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 10, 2015 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.

Carolyn was born in Georgetown on September 13, 1918, one of seven children of the late Walter and Bertha (Gage) Downing. She was raised and educated in Haverhill.

Beloved wife of the late John W. Steele. She worked for many years in the shoe industry and retired from Western Electric.

Carolyn was a kind and gentle woman who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her interests included crocheting, knitting, playing scratch tickets and watching the Boston Red Sox.

Her surviving family members include her loving daughters, Maureen Cadorette and spouse Maurice of Atkinson, NH and Cheryl Steele of Haverhill; grandchildren, Michael Cadorette, Jay Cadorette and spouse Elizabeth and Stephanie Cadorette and spouse Carolyn; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Maeve and Addison; siblings, Lillian Harrison of NC and Shirley Sweeney of Haverhill; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends from Mission Towers where Carolyn resided.

Visitation will take place on Friday morning, June 12, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street (Rte. 125), Haverhill beginning at 10:00 AM. Funeral Services will take place in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson, NH.
