ROWLEY - Carolyn M. (Thornton) Corcoran passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 14, surrounded by her loving family.
Carolyn was born on July 29, 1945, to John and Gertrude (Silver) Thornton. Born in Lynn and raised in Saugus, Carolyn was educated in the Saugus Public Schools and a member of the Saugus High School class of 1963. Carolyn continued her education at the Chandler School for Women in Boston, then spent time working for Eastern Airlines before settling down to raise a family.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Diamond and husband Tony, of Hamburg, NY and Colleen Ferrarini and husband Thomas of Bradford; sons Sean Corcoran and Terrence Corcoran of Rowley; precious grandchildren Sophia and Gabriella Ferrarini and Matthew, Carrie and Nathan Diamond. Carolyn is also survived by her sister Bette Andre and husband John of Peabody; sisters in-law, Mary Thornton of Naples, FL, Priscilla Corcoran of Lynn, Margaret Wilson of Franklin, NH and Kathleen Corcoran of Winthrop; brothers in-law Lawrence Corcoran and Michael Corcoran of Lynn; also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother John Thornton, Jr., her father and mother in-law Michael and Dorothy Corcoran, brother in-law William Corcoran and her beloved husband Richard Corcoran with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.
One of Carolyn's greatest joys was spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and traveling, especially to Ireland and North Conway with her husband. Spending summers on Long Pond Lake and later at Point Sebago were also a favorite past time. Most of all, Carolyn loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking, playing at the beach, and watching their numerous activities. She was proud of all of their accomplishments.
Carolyn courageously fought Glioblastoma with grace, hope, and humor. She will be deeply missed.
Her funeral will be held Thursday morning, January 19, beginning in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street (Rte. 125), Bradford at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 So. Main Street, Bradford at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday in the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
