"Carl" Gleed

PLAISTOW, NH: Carlton W. "Carl" Gleed, 82, died May 13, 2011 at Lawrence General Hospital. Mr. Gleed was the husband of Lorraine F. (Shattuck) Gleed. Born in Newburyport, MA on September 14, 1928, Mr. Gleed was the son of the late A. William Heath Gleed and Beatrice P. (Rand) Gleed. Mr. Gleed graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1946, and continued his education graduating from Boston University, Class of 1951. During the war he served in the U.S. Navy onboard the carriers USS Midway and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mr. Gleed worked at AT&T for thirty-six years before retiring as a supervisor in 1987. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Haverhill, Merrimack Lodge F. & A.M., and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Prior to moving to Plaistow he lived in the Riverside section of Haverhill for twelve years, and had served as president of the P.T.A. Mr. Gleed was an avid salt and fresh water fisherman, enjoyed traveling in his camper and spending time at the ocean.
Besides his wife of sixty-one years he is survived by his daughters, Andrea L. Donohoe and her husband Patrick of Hampstead, NH, Melissa W. Wagner and her husband Thomas of West Springfield, MA, Katrina N. Supino of Windham, NH; son, Carlton W. Gleed, II and his partner Douglas W. Crandall of Washington, DC, and six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Atty. William H. Gleed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, May 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Walnut Cemetery in Haverhill. At the family's request calling hours will be private. Arrangements by Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Donations in his memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana Farber Cancer Institute. P.O.
