HAVERHILL: Betty E. (Hartop) Dougherty, 91, passed away December 19, 2019 at The Oxford Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late William E. Dougherty, Jr.
Born in Haverhill on March 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Gladys P. (Bartlett) Hartop.
Educated in Haverhill, Betty graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1946. Her long work career began at Mass Electric where she worked as a secretary, and she retired following many years as office manager for Dr. John Walsh of Plaistow. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Plaistow. Betty took great pride in her family, and cherished their time together. She, and her sister June, travelled the flea market circuit selling pewter jewelry, and she looked forward to the traditional Saturday lunch with her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Wendy Petit and her husband Robert of Nottingham, NH; sister, June Rowell of Haverhill; five grandchildren and one great grandson.
