Obituary

LOWELL - Barbara (Carpenter) Page, 83, of Lowell, born in Wilkes Barre, PA to Lansing Taylor Carpenter and Gertrude Clift Carpenter, left the beautiful planet she loved on April 29, 2016, after a brief illness.

An Art History graduate from Wellesley College, she worked for the Peabody Museum of Cambridge exploring and illustrating archaeological finds in Mexico and the Oklahoma. Her work is found in two major Harvard University Press books. Independently, she worked as a graphic designer and used her talent to produce detailed pen and ink drawings and beautiful watercolor paintings.

Lover of knowledge, literature, culture and reading, she was active in a book club and served as the art and music chair for the Learning and Retirement Association of Lowell coordinating lectures on many enlightening subjects and visits to museums and musical events. She participated in numerous classes always challenging her mind and continuing her education.

Avid movie and theater fan, she enjoyed many years with her partner, the late Albert Brower, an English and drama instructor and producer of a New York theater. She enjoyed classic movies and was a significant donor and fundraiser for the Merrimack Repertory Theatre.

World traveler, she visited many European countries bicycling through France and Norway; also touring Mexico, China, Russia and Africa from which she brought back cherished collectibles.

Humane philanthropist, she contributed to many environmental, political, educational, arts and animal protection organizations including those saving cats both large and small. She rescued cats from shelters throughout her life most recently dear Tiger Lily and Oscar.

Loving family member, she leaves behind her two daughters Lucinda and Alicia Page, sisters Grace Hayes and Lucy Freeman, nieces Alexandra and Rachel Freeman, nephew Lansing Freeman and four grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her younger brother Ben Carpenter. She also leaves behind many close and devoted friends.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and incredible zest for life and was an illustrious woman and lover of life and beauty in all its forms. Donations in Barbara's memory can be made to Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge, 17552 Farm To Market 14, Tyler, TX 75706 or at www.tigercreek.org
