Barbara Craigen
(Mehldau) Mcgregor
December 5, 1931 – September 3, 2013
Barbara Craigen (Mehldau) McGregor, devoted wife of fifty-eight years of George Edwards McGregor Jr., passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2013. Her life's labor of love and devotion to family above all else were fulfilled in her roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Aside from her dedication to the well-being of her husband and daughters, Barbara was passionate about gardening, cooking, and making home the place to come together. Barbara is survived by her four daughters, Daryl McGregor Robicsek (Robert) of Atkinson, NH, Laura Craigen McGregor of Boston, MA Anne McGregor Fay (John) of Haverhill, MA, and Caroline McGregor Blair (Joshua) of Golden, CO.
Barbara and George instilled their family values in all four daughters who, with their parents as role models, became self-reliant, independent and caring women, graduated from college and are successful in the education and financial services professions. Oma will be dearly missed by her four grandchildren, Karl Bennett Robicsek, Erick Adams Robicsek, Madeline McGregor Blair, and Zack Michael Blair. Barbara is also survived by her brother Dr. Craig Arnold Mehldau (Annette) of West Hartford, CT and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara Craigen Mehldau was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 5, 1931 and was predeceased by both her mother, Alice Eleanor (Craigen) Mehldau and her father, Dr. Henry Arnold Mehldau. She was a graduate of Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, NY and Connecticut College for Women in New London, CT. Prior to Barbara's marriage, she worked in the legal department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Once all four daughters graduated from college, Barbara served in many roles at the Friends of the Haverhill Public Library, including Secretary of the Board of the Friends for several years, a volunteer in the Friends Shop and a member of the buying group for the shop's merchandise. Barbara was also a member of the XV Club.
Private burial services have been held.
