HAVERHILL: Barbara Mae ( Hicks) Shannon, 83, died Saturday morning at Wingate of Haverhill. Mrs. Shannon was the wife of the late Vincent Shannon.

born in Haverhill August 5, 1924, Mrs. Shannon was the daughter of the late Douglas and Ida (Batchelder) Hicks.

Following her graduation from Haverhill High School class of 1942 she continued her education at the Cambridge City Hospital School of Nursing graduating as a register nurse. Mrs. Shannon had worked as a nurse at the former Hale Hospital for 34 years before retiring in 1978. She attended St. James Church.

She is survived by her daughter Maureen E. Welch; grandson Colin Welch, both of Haverhill, and granddaughter Olivia Welch.

Friends are invited to the funeral Wednesday 2:00 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment at St. James Cemetery.
