HAVERHILL: Arthur C. Oestrich, 74, beloved husband of Judith A. (Southard) Oestrich, died suddenly at his home on August 24, 2010.
Born in Hancock, NY on April 21, 1936, Mr. Oestrich was the son of the late Arthur C. and Anna J. (Wilbur) Oestrich.
Arthur graduated from Hancock Central School, Class of 1953, and continued his education graduating in 1955 from Broome County Technical Institute with his degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked more than forty years as a member of the technical staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories until his retirement in 1996. He began his career in Murray Hill, NJ until his transfer to the Merrimack Valley facility in North
Andover in 1956. Arthur had lived in Sandown, NH for twenty-one years where he had served as Town Moderator for several years. He attended West Congregational Church, and was a member of the Merrimack Valley Umpires Association where he was responsible for officiating high school, college and semi-pro baseball games. He was a dedicated and enthusiastic fan of NASCAR's Busch North Series.
Besides his wife of nineteen years, Arthur is survived by daughters, Deborah Finch and her husband Russell of Greene, NY, Ruth Jillson of Hampstead, NH; granddaughters, Rae-chelle and Annalouise; sister, Nelda McEnaney of Tucson, AZ; six stepchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William Oestrich.
Friends are invited to the funeral at West Congregational Church on Monday, August 30th at 10:00 a.m. Calling hours at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill will be Sunday, Aug. 29th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Arthur's memory may be made to the West Congregation Church, 767 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832, or the American Diabetes Assoc., 330 Congress Street, Boston, MA 02210.
