HAVERHILL: After more than nine years as a resident of Penacook Place, Araksi "Helen" (Haroutunian) Hanoian died on April 14, 2009.

She was born in Uxbridge, MA on June 18, 1914, the daughter of Markar and Varvar (Guyreian) Haroutunion.

As a young girl she lived in Whitinsville, MA and graduated from Northbridge High School in 1932. In 1934 she married Haroutun (Harry) Hanoian and moved to Haverhill. In 1944 she joined with him in opening and working at a business, H & H Cleaners and Tailors. After her husband died in 1983, she continued to operate the business until 1999.

The organizations of which she was a member are Rainbow Mothers, the Armenian Relief Society, and Eastern Star. Her talents were many cooking, sewing, crocheting, lace tablecloths, doing the business account and being both diplomatic and wise. She loved music, songs in many languages, music from the old radio days, and classical.

She had two daughters Diana M. Hanoian and Elizabeth J. Hanoian Tcholakian. Her many nieces and nephews are Donald Artean of Farragut, TN, Barbara Keljikian of Asheville, NC, Aram Sisoian of Alton, NH, MaryAnn White of Webster, MA, Christine Yablonski of Shrewsbury, MA, Sally Haynes of Oxford, MA, Susan Pelletier of Charlton, MA, Karen Gauthier of Grafton, MA, and Marc Haynes of Blairstown, NJ. She was predeceased by her brother Khorin and her sisters Sirvart, Jeannette and Irene.

Friends are invited to the funeral Friday, April 17th, 10:00 a.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment at Linwood Cemetery.
