Obituary

HAVERHILL - Ana Mercedes Canela Peña was born in the Dominican Republic 1930 and immigrated to the US in 1965.

She worked in the clothing industry as a seamstress in NYC, later as a childcare provider in Cambridge for many years until her retirement. She later spent her last years in Haverhill and South Hadley, MA, with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband Guillermo R. Peña and 3 children Billy, Alberto, Lourdes, and granddaughter Amanda. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy of hard work, faith, recipes and love in her six daughters Ana Nilda (Arnoldo) Lorenzo, Luisa (Eduardo) Abreu, Bernie (Luis) Abreu, Ana Berta (Luis) Rodriguez, Guillermina Peña, and Veronica (Orlando) Vargas; eighteen grandchildren: Arnold, Adriana, Alexander, Stephanie, Nicole, Nathalie, Jennifer, Eileen, Lourdes, Rolando, William, Christina, Emmanuel, Daniel, Andy, Pablo, and Gabriela, as well as twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 8 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Services will begin Wednesday in the funeral home at 12:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. James Church 185 Winter Street, Haverhill at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill Street, Haverhill. HAVERHILL - Ana Mercedes Canela Vda. Peña nació en la República Dominicana en 1930 y emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1965. Trabajó en la industria textil como costurera en Nueva York, más tarde como proveedora de cuidado de niños en Cambridge durante muchos años hasta su jubilación. Más tarde pasó sus últimos años en Haverhill y South Hadley, MA, con su familia. Su esposo,Guillermo R. Peña y 3 hijos Billy, Alberto, Lourdes y su nieta Amanda (todos fallecidos). Deja atrás un gran legado de duro trabajo, fe, recetas y amor en sus seis hijas Ana Nilda (Arnoldo) Lorenzo, Luisa (Eduardo) Abreu, Bernie (Luis) Abreu, Ana Berta (Luis) Rodríguez, Guillermina Peña y Verónica (Orlando) Vargas; dieciocho nietos: Arnold, Adriana, Alexander, Stephanie, Nicole, Nathalie, Jennifer, Eileen, Lourdes, Rolando, William, Christina, Emmanuel, Daniel, Andy, Pablo, and Gabriela, 21 biznietos y 1 tataranieto. Las visitas se llevarán a cabo el martes 8 de agosto en la funeraria Driscoll, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill de 4:00 a 8:00 p. m.
