HAVERHILL – Adele (Mastrogianis) Papaefthemiou, 90, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, February 26, 2021, after a brief illness.

Adele was born in Haverhill on August 7, 1930, daughter of Christos and Angelike (Matses) Mastrogianis. Cherished wife of the late Sotirios Papaefthemiou who passed January 1, 2017, and they shared 59 years of marriage. She found great pleasure in raising the children while supporting her husband in their family business and properties. As the family eventually grew with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Yia Yia and Papou played a central role in their lives. Always a tremendous cook, Adele enjoyed hosting large gatherings for family and friends at their home. She was a woman of deep faith, a lifelong member of Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill and the church's Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. Most of all, family was the center of her life. Adele had a profound impact on everyone that knew and loved her and she will be greatly missed.

Family members include her sons Christos Papaefthemiou and wife Colleen of Haverhill, Vasilios Papaefthemiou and wife Patricia of Groveland and the late John Papaefthemiou who passed in 2000; adored grandchildren Sotirios Papaefthemiou and wife Allison, Evan Papaefthemiou, Jocelyn Papaefthemiou and fiancé Patrick Driscoll and Brian Papaefthemiou and fiancée Sarah Brauza; great-grandchildren Kaiden and Lilliana Papaefthemiou; and many nieces and nephews; sister of the late Angelo Felias and Sophie Mastrogianis.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Service Tuesday in the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Please meet directly at the church. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
