HAVERHILL - Mary Joanne (Somers) Puglielli of Haverhill, passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2024 at age 87 following a brief illness.
Joanne was the beloved wife of late Haverhill Police Officer Domenic Puglielli and cherished mother of Linda Jenney and her husband, Stephen of Reading, Nancy Maldonado and her boyfriend, Curt Valcourt of Haverhill and Karen Puglielli and her partner, Kathy Mills of Haverhill.
She was the devoted daughter of the late Fred and Alice Somers of Amesbury and big sister to brother Fred Somers and his wife, Jackie of Martinez, GA.
She was Gram to Daryl Maldonado and his wife, Wendy of Methuen, Desireé Doné and husband, Alberto of Bradford, Billy Mottram and his wife, Stephanie of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Dominique Maldonado and boyfriend, Adam Dunning of Haverhill and Mimi to Michael and Evan Jenney of Reading. GG adored greatgrandchildren Daryl Jr., Dylan and Jordyn Maldonado, Amar’e and Giancarlo Doné and Mackenzie, Brayden and Peyton Mottram as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Joanne was a very proud Amesbury High School Indian, Class of 1955 and had a wonderful time attending her 68th class reunion last year. She began her career at Western Electric and advanced with the company as computer librarian over 43 years as it progressed to Bell Labs, AT&T and Lucent Technologies.
She also worked for many years past retirement age as head waitress for Pat’s Beef House. The DiBurro’s treated her like family and she loved managing all the weddings and celebrations there. Favorite pastimes were cheering on her kids and grandkids at their sporting events and recitals, following the local sports teams with fervor and volunteering as a Communications Worker of America Life Member Pioneer. For nearly 50 years, their Hug-A-Bear program has been a cornerstone of the Pioneer Volunteer Network and Joanne’s crochet artistry adorned countless teddy bears supplied to local hospitals, shelters and emergency responders. Family brought her greatest joy and she’ll always be remembered for her generosity, outgoing personality and fun spirit. And a huge salt and pepper collection. She was known to always call on your birthday and bring dinner to older neighbors. She taught to follow your heart, be adventurous, give back and count your blessings. She was deeply touched and appreciative of all the friends and family who visited and called during her recent illness. You brought her great joy. Joanne will be forever loved and leaves a legacy of profound impact.
